I have been the recipient of numerous awards and outside research grants from prestigious funding organizations, including a Jamaica Government Award (1987) a Courtauld Institute Bursary (1998) Society for the Humanities Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2005-6) and School of Criticism and Theory Fellowship (2006).
Even so, fund raising and is a relatively new prospect for me, since in most cases the projects I have conducted in the past have come to me directly from agencies such as the British Council with funding attached. I find myself drawn increasingly to the Web because of the level of autonomy it gives one to develop projects without recourse to large handouts from funding agencies. My most recent projects have greater autonomy and are economically independent. I am enthused at the prospect of working in this way in the future.
